SUMMER BEGINS TODAY!

Summer 81 days

Special thanks to Luke Wyngarden, Leyton Richards, Joey Migchelbrink, Calvin Migchelbrink, Esben Schroeder, Cooper Wyngarden, and Mia Schroeder for this beautiful summer artwork on the sidewalk just outside the cul de sac! It is an exciting day at Hallinan!  Mr. Haynor and Mr. Wederski have the stage and amps set up for the music, the new bubble machine is being set up (courtesy of the 2014 fifth grade class), and yearbooks are distributed. I am equal parts excited and sad, as it is hard to see the kids go. They bring the light and the love into the building, and it gets awfully lonely here without them all summer! That being sad, here is the “homework” I gave the students for the summer:

1) Be SAFE. Wear your helmet on your bike and skateboard. Swim with a lifeguard present. Wear sunscreen.

2) Be KIND. Make a new friend in your neighborhood. Be courteous to your parents and help them out.

3) Be RESPONSIBLE. Take charge of your summer learning. Read every day! Read every day! Read every day!

I will miss you and will be waiting with open arms in September.

With love,

Sara

Field Day Perfection!

534

We had a fantastic field day this past Wednesday complete with gorgeous sunny weather! The students had an amazing time racing, running, and teaming up to participate in many unique activities. Special thanks to James Leaverton (parent) and Louise Gaustad (PE teacher) for coordinating this wonderful event for our students that promotes physical activity, teammwork, and FUN!

Talent Show Thank You!

511

A big thank you to our student performers, parent volunteers, and parents of performers for an AMAZING talent show this year! The students loved every minute. Special thanks and appreciation to Shelly Figueroa for her hard work in organizing such an exceptional program.

Frog Needs A Home!

australian-green-tree-frog

The two Australian tree frogs in Room 16 need a new, permanent home! They come with their own, fully furnished terrarium with screen lid and light. They are easy care, needing just 2 dozen crickets once a week, daily misting and water added every couple of days. They can be handled occasionally, but are better just to watch, especially when cricket hunting! They do well in an area that receives natural daylight and regular household temperatures (which is why they don’t like Hallinan!) If you would like to see the frogs and consider adopting them, please contact Mrs. Ford (fordc@loswego.k12.or.us).

Then and Now – Hallinan Alumni Return for Epic Photo

Hallinan Sixth Graders

This was the 6th Grade class in 2008, posing on the hexamid for their end of year picture.

IMG_9743This is that same class, all grown up, preparing to graduate from Lakeridge High School!

Congratulations to our Hallinan alumni, the class of 2014! You are inspirations to the young students who will be following in your footsteps. Thank you for taking the time to recreate this photo and share your Hallinan Hawk pride with all of us. We are proud of you!

Garden Produce For All!

garden veggies in the kitchen! Our garden is especially prolific right now, making it possible for us to add produce to our salad bar for all students to enjoy during lunch! It means so much to our students to understand that they had a part in feeding the whole school – what a lovely testimony to the significance of our community garden. I would like to send special thanks to Natalie Friis for her work with the garden this year, as well as all the garden room parents and the families that have signed up to tend it this summer. We are all looking forward to a fine Fall harvest!

Congratulations to our Retirees!

Please join us as we cry our eyes out congratulate our retirees, Margaret Zuercher and Marilyn Norris! Margaret has been a learning specialist in the Lake Oswego School District for many years and came over to Hallinan with me when I was brought on as principal. Her connection to children, compassionate way with parents, and professionalism have been a gift to us.  Marilyn has also been in our district as an office secretary for many years, the last three at Hallinan.  As many of you know, she is the perfect person for all to encounter when they enter our school due to her kindness, warm personality, and rock-steady dependability in any situation.  Hallinan has been blessed to have these two amazing people as part of our staff. They will be greatly missed, and they will always be a part of our school family.
