Some of you may recall that we will have early release on every other Thursday this year to accommodate teacher work in Professional Learning Communities. This is critical work that teaching teams and specialists will do to improve instruction, respond to individual student needs, and examine data for over-arching trends that ultimately assist us in providing a high quality program for our children. Early release begins at 1:20 on the following dates:
9/11, 9/25, 10/9, 10/23, 11/6, 11/20, 12/11, 1/8, 2/5, 2/19, 3/5, 4/9, 4/23, 5/7, 5/21 (all of these are Thursdays)
Extended care will be provided on these days.
The purpose of this time is for teachers to work together to examine student work, assessments, and curriculum. They are not workdays, and teachers will not be available for appointments with parents during this time. You may notice that the half day inservices from the past have been eliminated. For a better understanding of Professional Learning Communities, I invite you to read the following article:
If you still have questions, I am well versed in the topic and teach a class about PLCs at the university level. I am more than comfortable discussing the use of this time with anyone who is interested in learning more. We appreciate that this is a gift of time, and we intend to use it to benefit your children in every way possible.
