Several of the team members from the elementary Robotics team formerly known as Girls with Nerve has changed its name to G4: Girls Gotta Get Going!  and is competing in a creative problem solving competition called Destination Imagination. They’ve decided to complete a Community Service challenge because they recently realized there is no track and field program for youth younger than middle school in their community and as a result:

Team G4 wants to start one!!
The girls are working with the Lake Oswego School district and the High school Level track coaches to find practice space. This project is raising money for startup costs, including uniforms, practice equipment, facility rentals, and travel funds.
They have partnered with Road Runner Sports in Tualatin, to hold a Gear-Up Night on FRIDAY 2/6 from 6pm-8pm.   The youth track and field team will get 7% of all sales towards their cause.  They are also planning a 2K Family Fun Run on 3/1 -also a fundraiser.  Road Runner will donate $100 if we can have attendance of 50-100 people, $200 if we have attendance of more than 100 attend. So there is a huge benefit to invite the community to support the effort.
Everyone can get gear, this is for adult runners and walkers, as well, not just youth runners.  We confirmed there are plenty of youth shoe sizes in stock and they will offer to do a ShoeDog fitting for anyone interested.
2K Family Fun Run – Prizes for craziest, most outrageous costumes
The 2K Family Fun Run will be held at 10 am on Sunday 3/1, at Road Runner Sports in the Nyberg Woods Shopping Center. Online registration for the Fun Run will open, this week.
A few LO kids compete in Track and Field for Our Lady of the Lake (OLL), a catholic school CYO team in LO. However, this project is to start a USA Track and Field (USATF) team, the official league of the USA Olympic team. This league allows athletes a few more events and athletes can advance through additional levels of competition. Also known as Junior Olympics, top athletes in all events progress to State, Regional, National competition. USATF starts at age 7 and competes with other teams throughout Oregon at sanctioned meets. Age based divisions, versus grade based make it a more level playing field for young students who may be younger than their classmates.
There are YOUTH USATF teams in Portland, Tigard, Tualatin, Sherwood, Beaverton, Aloha, and West Linn.  There is no USA Track and Field program for youth in Lake Oswego. Many of the youth teams in Oregon fill in hours after registration opens.
USATF track teams develop kids in all events, preparing them for middle school, if they enjoy it. Learning how to long jump, pass a baton, and start on the blocks can be taught before 6th grade and give a child an option to be successful in middle school.
The sport is a great spring filler for a specializing athlete. Football, basketball, and soccer coaches regularly encourage athletes to cross-train in running track in the SPRING!
